REVIEW KEY POINTS & COMPLETE DAY 2 HOMEWORK
HORMONAL SHIFTS DRIVE MENOPAUSE
There are two fundamental actions you need to focus on to begin to create immediate relief during menopause:
1) Creating hormonal balance primarily with estrogen & progesterone as well as other hormones such as insulin and cortisol.
2) Adapting a lifestyle that promotes health and well being.
Menopause is more than hot flashes/ heat waves. There are over 72 different symptoms.
Your physical symptoms are not in your head. They are real.
STEPS TO CREATE SYNERGY IN MENOPAUSE
1) Eat a diet rich in anti-inflamatory foods and foods that contain estrogen known as isoflavones, for example:
Flax seeds, garlic, turmeric, berries, grains, almonds, sesame seeds, soy products, vegetables such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, kale, onions, spinach and sprouts.
2)Eat at least 25g of fiber daily
3)Reduce added sugar to 25g daily.
4) Hydrate with plenty of water
5Focus more on building muscles
5) Bulk up on protein: eat 20% of your ideal body weight in protein daily.
5)Start Hormone Replacement Therapy.
WHAT IS ESTROGEN
Estrogen is a hormone that is produced primarily in the ovaries. A small amount is produced by the adrenal glands that sit on top of the kidneys. Moreover, some estrogen is made by the conversion of cholesterol to progesterone, to testosterone then ultimately to estrogen.
There are estrogen sensitve receptors all over the body which become understimulated during menopause when the estrogen levels plummet.
This is what accounts for all the over 72 symptoms that are experienced in peri-menopause and menopause.
I assure you that these symptoms are not all in your head. You are not a “whining woman” as the medical industry has labeled you.
SIGNS OF LOW ESTROGEN
Hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, joint pain ringing in the ears, vertigo, sleep disturbances, weight gain, low sex drive, palpitations, fatigue, and changes in skin and hair to name a few.
PERI-MENOPAUSE CAUSES HORMONAL CHAOS
If you are still having regular periods estrogen peaks mid cycle, and this is when you feel most vibrant and calm. Estrogen impacts every body system.
During perimenopause, there is hormonal chaos with erratic estrogen fluctuations. It is therefore difficult to predict your estrogen levels with a blood test as it is sometimes high and then low on another occasion. This is why the perimenopause period is one of the most difficult stages in a woman’s life.
JOURNAL PROMPT
